The programs created for each athlete at Gametime Sports Chesterfield are the culmination of more that two decades of clinical and practical training experience, in addition to high school, collegiate and professional experience. Each program is geared toward the specific needs and goals of each athlete. Ultimately, each athlete will be guided to the achievement of each strength and speed performance goal.
The speed (both linear and lateral) and rotational power needed for a superior baseball / softball player require very specific training. This includes a solid basis in balance and flexibility in order to have the foundation for strength and speed development, as well as to prevent injury.
As these facets are developed, then strength, power and speed elements are added in order for the athlete to reach his / her potential and achieve his / her goals.
Each athlete, upon completion of an extensive evaluation, will have an individualized training program designed for his specific needs and goals. Each workout session will be closely observed and altered as the athlete’s physical abilities increase. Workouts will be made specific to both position and age of the athlete.
Pitchers’ training will emphasize shoulder mobility, as well as greatly focus upon leg and core strength in order to “drive” off the mound. In addition, balance and flexibility will be continually improved in order to address the constant imbalances innate to the sport.
Catchers will focus on hip development, in addition to the strength and speed needs of other positions. Hip power and flexibility is focused on in order to reduce a catcher's “pop time”, as well as power utilized when throwing potential runners out.
Rotational power development will be emphasized to increase both bat speed and control. This will be done in bi-lateral manner in order to address imbalances created by using a bat as a specific (right-handed / left-handed) hitter.
For the younger athlete, the emphasis will be on body-weight movements. This will include an emphasis on core strength development and single-leg movements for balance and power development. As the athlete’s strength develops, resistance bands, kettlebells and dumbbells will be introduced in an extremely controlled environment. No weight will be put over or behind the athlete’s head at this age. In addition, there will be a great amount of time spent on footwork (with agility ladders and cones), plyometric power development (with mini-hurdles, plyo boxes and plyo balls) and speed technique and development (both lateral and linear).
For the older athlete, emphasis will be placed upon power and olympic lifts. Power is further developed through more advanced movements using plyo balls, boxes, specialized resistance bands for speed work and longer explosive movements utilizing the turf area. Speed is greatly emphasized in specific technique and drill work.
Flexibility and injury reduction is focused upon each training session by a thorough (guided) warm up at the beginning and specific cooldown / stretch at the end of every training session. The stretches are specifically designed with the needs of the football player. In particular, the gluteal chain (hamstring / glute / low back) and shoulder / neck areas are focused upon.
Each athlete will experience the highest level of instruction and evaluation. Safety and development are always emphasized as the athlete progresses though his development. Lastly, and potentially most importantly, each athlete’s diet will be monitored as an integral element of his overall success.
